With the release of the Montbrillant,Breitling changed the face of the wrist chronograph. The look of the Montbrillant was inspired by the aviation boom of the 1940s and 1950s. It was named in honor of the building on Montbrillant Street, which housed the Breitling workshops from 1892 to 1979. The Monbrillant series led the way in technical developments. In 1915 Breitling offered a Montbrillant with the first independent pushpiece, and 1934 brought the release of the second independent pushpiece. In 1969 Breitling designed a Montbrillant that offered the first self-winding chronograph. The 1940s and 1950s saw the boom of air transport, and Breitling earned the title as the "official supplier to world aviation" after it produced its famous on-board chronographs. The Montbrillant Datora is know for its precision and provides a second hour display in 24-hour mode, known as "military time." Staying true to its aeronautical spirit, the dial and the hands of the Montbrillant are inspired by the 1940s, and it includes a traditional central 1/1ooth of an hour display. In order to diversify the look of the Montbrillant, the limited series of Monbrillant 47 was offered in steel and rose gold, and it accentuated its unique character through its flowing and balanced lines. Even to this day, the Montbrillant design continues to stay true to its aeronautical spirit.
