The IWC Big Pilot Spitfire IW500917 (launched 2019) is a stunning tribute to the legendary Mark 11 pilot’s watch supplied to the RAF in 1948 and to the iconic Spitfire fighter itself. Encased in rugged 46mm brushed stainless steel (15.1mm thick) with a dramatic slate-grey sunburst dial, this modern classic shrinks the traditional Big Pilot proportions to a more wearable yet still commanding size—perfect for daily wear without sacrificing presence.

Powered by the in-house Calibre 52110 automatic movement (257 components, 31 jewels, Pellaton winding system with ceramic components), it delivers an impressive 7-day (168-hour) power reserve, displayed via a discreet sub-dial at 3 o’clock alongside the signature triangular index at 12. The soft-iron inner cage protects against magnetic fields, while the sapphire crystal is secured to withstand sudden pressure drops in the cockpit. Legibility is exceptional with rhodium-plated appliqué numerals and hands coated in heavy Super-LumiNova® for night-time glow.
