Rolex Cosmograph Daytona ref. 116503 with its 40mm stainless steel and yellow gold case, and white dial, absolutely personifies Rolex collecting. Introduced in 2000 it's the very first reference number to use the Rolex in-house, automatic, chronometer-rated, column-wheel chronograph movement, caliber 4130 with 3 days power reserve. Rolex patented screw-down Triplock crown, 18 carat white gold hands and baton hour markers, arrow-tipped chronograph hand, and red "Daytona" at 6 is really just perfection in every sense. As are the sub dials, running seconds at 6, 30 minute counter at 3 and 12 hour counter at 9 o'clock with the last 2 sub dials slightly higher as opposed to pre 2000 models. Another clever design is that all Daytona Cosmographs' sub dials contrast the dial. In this case the numeral track is "gold" to match the bezel, "snailed" with engraved concentric circles and outlined white gold rings. The watch was purposely designed for professional racing drivers to wear on-track to calculate speed and time laps during a race.
