As Richie Sambora, guitarist of Bon Jovi once said, at the end of the the day, if you want the real thing, buy a can of Coke, well that”s exactly what you get with The Rolex Oyster Perpetual GMT Master II ref 16710, the real thing, now discontinued, this very model rank amongst one of the most collectable pieces around today. Originally designed for Pan Am pilots, it has the ability to indicate multiple time zones, which was somewhat of an unheard phenomenon for airline pilots back in the 60”s. On the GMT Master 2, the 12-hour and 24-hour hands can be set independently. Local time is indicated by the conventional hour, minute and seconds hand while reference time is displayed by the 24-hour hand pointing to the 24-hour bezel (which can remain in the neutral position with the triangle at 12 o”clock). When traveling, the conventional hour hand can jump in one-hour increments to the new local time without disturbing the 24-hour hand. Plus, turning the bezel permits a third time zone to be displayed for a moment before setting it back to its neutral position. The ever reliable calibre 3186 powers this watch which fits perfectly on the wrist in 40mm, the ever secure Oyster bracelet caps of the coolest beverage around.
