In the early 1980”s the Ref. 1680 was the first fitted with a synthetic sapphire crystal and the caliber 3035 movement and renumbered Ref. 16800. The early version of the Rolex Submariner Date Ref. 16800 is considered transitional since the model still carried the matt dial.
